Eligibility Criteria for Engineering Admission

 

It is very important for candidates to know about  the eligibility criteria of Engineering Admission , before he / she got admission in any Technical institution in Tamilnadu.

The following candidates are eligible for Engineering Admission in Tamilnadu.

Residence / Domicile Eligibility

Candidates who are native of Tamil Nadu state and have completed their intermediate Class (12th ) from the state of Tamil Nadu.

Candidates who do not belong to Tamil Nadu state, but have completed their intermediate Class (12th ) education from the state of Tamil Nadu.

Candidates who belong to the state of Tamil Nadu, but have completed their intermediate Class (12th ) education from another state are also eligible to apply but they need to submit a native certificate.

Candidates who are the children of employees working for the central government. However, they need to show the native certificate of their parents or guardians has been serving the state of Tamil Nadu continuously from the last five years.

Candidates whose parents are All India Service Tamil Nadu Cadre Officers eligible for the admission.

Academic Qualifications Eligibility

Tamil Nadu local applicants alone will be looked at for communal reservation. Others will be found under “Open Competition”.

Candidates must have passed HSC (Academic/ Vocational) with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as main subjects.

Candidates belonging to the general category must have passed HSC (Academic/ Vocational) with an aggregate of 50%.

Candidate belonging to Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim candidates must have passed HSC (Academic/ Vocational) with an aggregate of 45%.

Candidates belonging to MBC (Most Backward Classes) and DNC (Denotified Class) must have passed HSC (Academic/ Vocational) with an aggregate of 45%.

Candidates belonging to SC/SCA/ST (Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Caste sub-category/ Scheduled Tribe) must have passed HSC (Academic/ Vocational) with an aggregate of 45%

Candidates must have passed their intermediate Class (12th) or equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects

Candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in Class (12th ) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. 40% of marks are mandatory for candidates belonging to reserved category

Candidates who have passed 10+2 in Tamil Nadu, need not include Nativity Certificate.

Candidates who have passed 10+2 Std or their equivalent from educational organizations located outside Tamil Nadu must include a duplicate copy of their Nativity Certificate only in the form of a soft copy/ digitally signed e-Certificate.

Wards of employees in the Public Sector or Government recognized Institution in Tamil Nadu working continuously for the past five years can also apply. They don’t need to submit a domicile certificate for it. A certificate from the company has to be submitted along with the application stating that the individual is a permanent member of the company with proof like Income Tax Return, PF slips, etc. for the past five years.

Candidates not submitting their nativity certificate (if needed) in all the categories mentioned above, will not be considered for the admission. 

Eligibility in Age

Minimum age of candidates: 18 years

Maximum age of candidates: 25 years

As per the TNEA rules, age relaxation provision is present for the reserved category.
